Queens' College, Cambridge
The Old Hall

Image of Queens' College Old Hall

Background info: The Old Hall at Queens' College is a serious contender for the title of the most impressive dining hall in Cambridge. It is the original hall that has been used by Fellows and students for over 500 years. It is part of Queens' Old Court which reflects the plan of manor court houses of the 15th century. The interior of the Old Hall is richly decorated and above the Tudor fireplace are tiles attributed to William Morris and his associates.

The Hall has a minstrels gallery at the back from which praises of LFG can be sung (please feel free to send in suitable contributions for inclusion in the dinner entertainment programme).

Partners / friends: The Hall seats up to 114 people for banquets, so please do bring a partner or friend.

Dress code: Dinners in Cambridge college halls are normally formal events. Since our conference dinner is an external event, formal dress is not required. However, please feel free to take the opportunity to dress up if you wish - it certainly won't be considered out of place.

Menu: The menu is fixed, but there are non-vegetarian and vegetarian (v) options for the starter and the main course. Please see below for details.

Cost: £32 per person (a very special LFG09 rate).

Directions: We will be setting off as a group from outside Trinity College, Great Gate, at 7:20 pm. However, should you need to get to the dinner venue yourself, enter Queens' College from Silver Street, on the west side of Silver Street Bridge, to get a chance to walk across the famous Mathematical Bridge at Queens', and across their Cloister Court. The Old Hall is on the opposite side of the Cloister Court.

Queens' Cloister Court is a superb example of Tudor architecture, the cloisters supporting a spectacular wooden-beamed President's Lodge which is the oldest building on the river at Cambridge (ca. 1460).
